Frequently asked question

– What do I need to rent a car?
To book your car, all you need is a credit or debit card. When you pick the car up, you’ll need:
  • Your voucher / eVoucher, to show that you’ve paid for the car.
  • The main driver’s credit card, with enough available funds for the car’s deposit.
  • Each driver’s full, valid driving licence, which they’ve held for at least 12 months (often 24).
  • Your passport and any other ID the car hire company needs to see.
– What should I look for when I’m choosing a car?
  • Space: You’ll enjoy your rental far more if you choose a car with plenty of room for your passengers and luggage.
  • Fuel policy: Not planning on driving much? A Like for like fuel policy can save you a lot of money.
  • Location: You can’t beat an ‘on-airport’ pick-up for convenience, but an ‘off-airport’ pick-up with a shuttle bus can be much cheaper.
– What does similar mean?
In the reservation process, you choose a car in a certain category. For example, you can choose a car in the large category or maybe you want a station wagon. The pictures of the cars you will see are examples. If you choose a particular rental car, it will always say ‘or similar’. This means that you are assured of a rental car from the same category with those specifications. This may be different from the model you see on the picture, but don’t worry, you will always get a similar rental car model and will never get a Fiat500 if you have reserved a SUV.
What is Zero Excess Insurance? (Only USA)
Collision damage waiver (CDW) and theft protection (TP) insurance adds peace of mind to any Auto Europe car rental. Most insurance will include an excess, or deductible, with their policy. In the event of an accident, the driver is charged an amount of money to cover part of the damage estimates. This is your excess amount. Excess/deductibles can range from several hundred to several thousand dollars. Zero Excess means that you won’t be responsible for paying anything in the event the car is damaged or in an accident.
You reserve a category, not a specific make or model!

Before you read any further, it’s important to know that you always reserve a category of car rental and not a specific make or model. We cannot guarantee that you will actually be offered the rental car that is pictured. The rental cars do not belong to us, but to the local partner. They plan the fleet and we have no insight into it. A phone call to the local rental partner does not help either. They do not guarantee any brand or type of car. It could be, for example, that a rental car is returned late or comes back with damage.

– How Old do I have to rent a car?

For most car rental companies, the age requirement is between 21 and 70 years old. If you’re under 25 or over 70, you might have to pay an additional fee.

– Can I book a rental for someone else?

Yes, as long as they meet these requirements. Just fill in their details while you’re making the reservation.

– What does my price include?

The vast majority of our rentals include Theft Protection, Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), local taxes, airport surcharges and any road fees. You’ll pay for any ‘extras’ when you pick your car up, along with any young driver, additional driver or one-way fees – but we’ll explain any additional costs before you book your car (and taking your own child seats or GPS can be an easy way to reduce your costs). For more details on what’s included, just check the Ts&Cs.

Car mode travel fosters a deeper connection with the local culture, allowing for spontaneous stops at hidden gems, such as a charming café in a quiet town or a secluded beach with stunning views.
