Downtown Memphis' basement barbecue legend, famous for charcoal-broiled ribs with a dry rub.
Charlie Vergos opened the Rendezvous in a downtown basement in 1948, and his charcoal-broiled ribs, finished with a Greek-inspired dry rub rather than sauce, became a Memphis signature. The family-run restaurant is entered from General Washburn Alley, opposite The Peabody, and its walls are crowded with decades of memorabilia.
