The Fisherman's Wharf café credited with introducing Irish coffee to the United States in 1952, beside the Powell–Hyde cable car turnaround.

The Buena Vista has been pouring at the corner of Hyde and Beach since 1916, when the ground floor of a boarding house became a saloon, and in 1952 it introduced Irish coffee to the United States. The ritual is still the main event: glass after glass lined up along the bar and finished with a float of cream. A short walk from the last stop of the Powell–Hyde cable car, the café serves hearty breakfasts and classic American plates through the day, and it is a natural place to warm up after the bay air of Fisherman's Wharf.
