Stargazing where Pluto was found
Lowell Observatory, on Mars Hill above Flagstaff, is the working observatory where Pluto was discovered in 1930. After dark, its Giovale Open Deck Observatory becomes one of the finest collections of public telescopes in the world: six instruments ranging from 5.5 to 32 inches, including a Victorian-style refractor for close views of the Moon and planets, a 32-inch reflector for nebulae and galaxies, and a telescope with a live colour camera that shows deep-sky objects in real time. The open-air Dark Sky Planetarium adds live, guided tours of the night sky from heated seats, and the historic campus tells the story of more than a century of astronomy.
